Portfolio build programme · Five places only
Five North Yorkshire businesses.
£29/month.
Complete website included.
Copper Lane is new and the studio needs a North Yorkshire portfolio. So the first five clients lock in Care + Local SEO at £29/month for their first twelve months (normally £49/month) — and a full website build (normally £250–£500) is included in the plan. You give us a Google review, a short testimonial, and permission to use the finished site as a case study.

The deal
Plain numbers. No fine print.
Two columns. What I do for free. What you cover so the website actually stays online and earns its keep. If those two lists look fair, we should talk.
What you get — included in the plan
The build.
- A complete 3–5 page mobile-friendly website, designed and built around your business
- Plain, accurate copy written for your customers — we can interview you and draft it for you
- Basic local SEO foundations: page titles, metadata, schema markup, Google Business Profile alignment
- A working contact form, Google Maps embed, social links, and clear calls to action
- Launch support: domain pointing, SSL, indexing, Search Console, and a 14-day snagging window
- The full launch package would normally be £250–£500. For the Founding Five, the design and build are on the house.
What you provide
Your end.
- Running costs covered. Pick one: Care + Local SEO at £29/month for your first twelve months then £49/month (recommended — bundles hosting, edits, and active monthly Local SEO work), Care Lite at £19/month (hosting and support only), or self-hosted at roughly £10–£20/month.
- A short written testimonial we can use on the site and in marketing
- A Google review on the Copper Lane Business Profile once you’re happy with the site
- Permission to use your finished site as a public case study (logo, screenshots, a short write-up)
- Photos, brand assets, and the content we need to do the job — or your time to talk it through if you’d rather we drafted it
- A timely client: you respond to messages within a couple of working days so we can keep the project moving
Running costs
Three ways to keep the lights on.
Pick whichever fits your business. The recommended path is the first one — it covers everything and includes monthly local SEO work, which is exactly the thing that makes a small business website earn its keep.
Option A · Recommended for the Founding Five
Care + Local SEO — £29/month for your first twelve months, then £49/month
Hosting, SSL, backups, security updates, business email at cost, up to 30 minutes of content edits per month, and up to 30 minutes of Local SEO work per month — Google Business Profile posts, review replies, monthly local rank checks, and small content tweaks based on what is or isn’t bringing customers in. Direct support from the designer who built the site. Twelve-month minimum term. Clear export of files if you ever leave. This is the path I recommend for the Founding Five because it keeps the site looked after AND actively working for you in search — and the discounted first year makes the maths sensible for a smaller business.
Option B · Care Lite
Hosting and support only — £19/month
The stripped-back option. Hosting, SSL, backups, security updates, and direct support when something breaks. Business email available at cost. No included edits or SEO time — when you need either, we bill at a fair hourly rate. Six-month minimum term. Best if you’re comfortable updating your own content and don’t need monthly hands-on work from me.
Option C · Self-hosted
You handle it all — roughly £10–£20/month
If you already have a hosting setup and want to keep it, that’s fine. Budget for a domain renewal (around £10–£20/year), business email (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 at roughly £5/mailbox/month), and hosting (£5–£15/month depending on provider). I’ll point you at sensible suppliers and hand over a clean build. After handover, ongoing tweaks and support are billed per change rather than included.
Selection
Who we’re looking for.
Five places. Mixed sectors. The aim is a varied, credible portfolio — not the cheapest five builds I can find.
Good fit
- Real, trading businesses in North Yorkshire — trades, service businesses, independent shops, small companies. Not side-projects or pre-launch ideas.
- A mix of sectors. We are deliberately choosing variety so the portfolio shows different types of work.
- Owners who are happy to be public references after launch — a Google review, a quote, the case study on this site.
- Businesses where a clear, fast, mobile-friendly website would genuinely move the needle: getting found locally, getting enquiries, looking credible next to bigger competitors.
Not a fit
- Anonymous or no-name clients. The whole point of this is a public portfolio.
- Projects that need ecommerce, booking systems, member areas, or custom integrations. We can quote those separately at normal rates.
- Businesses chasing the cheapest option with no interest in the work being any good. The Founding Five is a partnership, not a giveaway.
- People who can't commit to a Care Plan or some form of hosting. Without running costs covered there is no site to look at.
Questions
Useful detail.
Why are you doing this?
+
Copper Lane is new. I have twelve years of experience building sites for small businesses, but the studio itself is brand new and needs a North Yorkshire portfolio to show prospective clients. Five free builds in exchange for testimonials, reviews, and case studies is the fastest honest way to get there.
Is the website really free?
+
The design, build, and launch are free — that’s the work that would normally cost between £250 and £500. You still need to cover the ongoing running costs: domain, business email, and hosting. For Founding Five clients the cleanest way is our Care + Local SEO plan at £29/month for the first twelve months (then £49/month), which bundles hosting, security, backups, business email at cost, and active monthly local SEO work. If you’d rather a stripped-back option, Care Lite is £19/month. Or you can self-host at roughly £10–£20/month.
What’s the catch?
+
No catch, but I am picky about who I take on. I want five businesses that will give an honest review, let me use the site as a case study, and stay in touch as I build the studio out. If you’re willing to do that, the offer is straightforward.
Do I own the site?
+
Yes. The site is yours from launch. Code, content, domain, accounts — all in your name. If you ever want to leave the Care Plan and host it elsewhere, I export the files and walk you through the move. No lock-in.
What if I want pages or features that go beyond a normal launch?
+
Extras like custom photography, copy from scratch on a long brief, ecommerce, booking systems, advanced SEO, or a second language are quoted separately at fair rates. I will tell you up front before we start so there are no surprises.
How long does it take?
+
Two to four weeks from a signed brief once I have your content and photos. If you’re organised, faster. If you take a month to send the photos, slower. I’ll tell you what I need and when.
How do I apply?
+
Fill in the form at the bottom of this page. I read every enquiry myself, usually within a working day. If we’re a fit, I’ll suggest a short call. If we’re not, I’ll tell you that too and point you somewhere useful.
